Oct 12, 2021

Houston Community College is launching a new Advanced Technical Certificate program in Medical Biotechnology in the upcoming spring semester in response to the rapidly growing field of biotechnology.

The certificate is being offered at HCC’s Coleman College for Health Sciences at Texas Medical Center in Houston. The one-year program will require 36 credit hours of study covering topics that include biotech lab methods and techniques, bioinformatics, biotech instrumentation, molecular biology, cell culture and immunochemical techniques, and principles of bio-manufacturing, among other topics.

Those working in biotechnology can take on roles in research, development and manufacturing of novel medicinal and bio-molecular products for detection, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases and medical disorders. Instruction will be lab-based and requires participants to already hold either an associate degree or bachelor’s degree in Biological/Health Sciences.

In Texas, average salaries for a trained Medical Biotechnologist is $46,288 per year.
