Special message from the Chancellor condemning Anti-Asian Violence
Mar 26, 2021
At the beginning of the semester, I shared that as a community, we must denounce violence; we must condemn racism; and we must strive to eliminate inequality as we work toward a more just society. HCC is an institution where civil dialogue is paramount and where each person must be respected and treated with dignity.
In light of recent shootings in the Atlanta area, where at least six Asian women horrifically lost their lives, we must again confront senseless acts of violence. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. While details of these senseless acts are still forthcoming, we realize that racism and violence have no place in society.
These acts are intolerable, and HCC stands firmly with our Asian students, faculty, staff and community in denouncing such acts. We are here to support you. Houston Community College takes reports of discrimination seriously and any members of our community who have experienced or witnessed an act of bias are encouraged to report the incident to the Office of Institutional Equity.
Standing with you, we are one as a college community in bringing success to all students through access and equity in our mission.
Sincerely,
Cesar Maldonado, Ph.D., P.E.,
Chancellor
